As our tagline – “Because Coo-peration Saves Lives” – suggests, this is intended to be a collective project, involving rescuers who, likes us, believe that
- pigeons are remarkable, wonderful animals who deserve the same high standard of care as any other wild species
- domesticated pigeons deserve high-quality care and comfortable lives which should not depend on their ability to perform in ‘sports’
- where pigeons and humans come into conflict, issues should be resolved through deterrence and habitat management, not through lethal control
- wild pigeons of all species should be respected as wild animals. Whilst many do adapt to life in captivity, this should be reserved for disabled birds and should provide them with as natural a life as possible, outside with other pigeons, not in a house as a ‘pet’.
